Could The Force Awakens’ Maz Kanata Be A Phantom Menace Easter Egg?

Force Awakens-transparent_space

Now if you haven’t seen Disney’s newest entry in the series, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, then you should definitely turn away now. You still there? Well then okay. So it seems that many talented Star Wars fans have recently found a particular moment in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, where there is a shelf-sized statuette in the likeness of the new Force Awakens character Maz Kanata, played by Lupita Nyong’o. As many wild theory’s go in the Star Wars universe, particularly right now, it’s actually some worthwhile guesswork & quite entertaining for the moment, if only for the fun need to fill the in the gap of the post-Force Awakens timeline. So let’s take a look and you decide . .

There’s a lighthearted & playful moment in the Phantom Menace when young Anakin brings Padme and Qui-Gon back to his Hutt during a bad sandstorm on Tatooine. He proceeds to spirit Padme off to his room to show her his robot ( relax guys, he’s just a kid in this movie, no funny business yet ). Then a moment later, R2D2 rolls into the youngster’s room to provide some much needed chaperoning, and what does the droid in fact pass by on his way?

transparent_space.png

If the above picture isn’t working to well for ya, let us describe the object in question: A small statue alien with an extra-large head ( exact same shape ), with two eye sockets that resemble goggles, and a elongated neck with similar garb. Now in The Force Awakens we meet Maz Kanata in her shrine & general establishment. Han Solo takes Rey and Finn there to find out where the Resistance is, so they can help find Luke Skywalker. We learn Maz Kanata is something like 1,000 years old, definitely old enough to have been aware of the legend of Anakin Skwalker and the Jedi of old, if not part of it in some way. Let us also not forget, she’s the one who has Luke’s family lightsaber in her storage containers.

But could this figurine in The Phantom Menace really mean anything at all? Recycled Star Wars concept art is certainly not unheard of in the saga, and then there’s the fact that her temple is laced with flags from many planets of that particular era, & it does raise one’s eyebrow a bit.

transparent_space

Another fun thing to note, is that we see her wearing racing type goggles most of the time, ( for no reason that we know of ) much like a desert pod-racer on Tatooine. Might she in fact be a Tatooine desert racer? Perhaps an ancient champion long before the likes of young Skywalker?

So in the end here, we speculate that not only it is entirely possible that Maz Kanata was at the very least modeled after an unused design from an earlier movie, but in fact could have an interesting back story pertaining to it. Unfortunately, until her official past is revealed, it’s anyone’s guess right now . . .

Shane Black’s Predator Script Finished!

transparent_space

The upcoming Predator movie, the fourth in the series, is one inch closer to becoming a reality. The script by Fred Dekker has been turned into the studio as confirmed on his personal Facebook page. Shane Black, who directed Iron Man 3, is taking the helm on this latest entry in the franchise, who in fact, is a long time longtime collaborator with Dekker. The duo actually first worked together in creating the original 1987 sci-fi horror classic starring Arnold Schwarzenegger . .

No story details have been revealed for this new film. And it isn’t known if it will directly continue the story set up in the previous movies, but it is a sequel and not a remake or reboot. The last entry was 2010’s Predators, director by Nimród Antal and produced by Robert Rodriguez.

Perhaps this new outing will work in straightening the narrative, tying everything that has come before. In turn, it will also be able to hand the franchise off to a new set of characters that could be carried over in future sequels, something that hasn’t happened with any of the previous films. It’s possible that Shane Black could bring back any of the former stars, including Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers and Danny Glover . . .

Which Hero Will Appear In Marvel’s New Spider-Man?

transparent_space

New details have recently emerged on Marvel’s upcoming Spider-Man movie front. Comments made by Robert Downey Jr. on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! before debuting the first trailer for Captain America: Civil War might have shed some light on the production. Here’s what the actor jokingly had to say, in response to Chris Evans talking about how hot it was in Atlanta while they were shooting the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, in theaters next spring . .

“Oh ha, by the way, ( Chris Evans ) don’t forget, we are going to shoot in Atlanta again, you and I . . . oh yeah.”

Could Robert Downey Jr. in fact been referring to the in development Spider-Man film? It’s certainly very possible, but it’s worth noting that there are other Marvel Cinematic Universe movies shooting in Atlanta at that time as well.

Upcoming X-Men Sequel To Focus On Quicksilver And Magneto!

transparent_space

Well it certainly seems that Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse is going to be jam-packed with Mutants old and new, but one particular fan favorite is going to get some special attention. Evan Peters, who plays Quicksilver in last year’s sequel, revealed some of the story will focus on the relationship between the super-speedster and his biological dad, which was only ever hinted at that Magneto is indeed Quicksilver’s father. When the two meet up again in next summer’s blockbuster sequel, their path’s will finally connect. Speaking with Details magazine, Peters had this to say about his part in the next upcoming film . .

“The story is that my character is searching for his father and really wants to find him. It starts from there and then he jumps on the X-Men train and gets sucked up in this whole, crazy Apocalypse madness: He joins in and tries to stop him from destroying the world basically.”

The mutant-speedster character, which is shared by both 20th Century Fox and Marvel Studios cinematically, first made his debut in X-Men: Days of Future Past. When he learned of Magneto’s powers, he mentions that his mother “used to know” a man who could manipulate metal. It has been confirmed that in this corner of the Marvel Universe owned by Fox Studios, that Magneto is still Quicksilver’s father, despite Marvel Comic’s recent changing of the characters entire origins . . .

Wolverine To Appear In Upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse After All?

transparent_space

Recently during a 20th Century Fox presentation at 2015 Comic Con panel, X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer engaged in a somewhat cryptic conversation with actor Hugh Jackman, who still has not been confirmed for this latest installment. While the conversation certainly didn’t confirm a Wolverine cameo yet, it did hint that one may be possible. Journal de Montreal is now reporting that the director is assembling his cast in Montreal early next year for reshoots, and that Hugh Jackman may be on hand . .

It isn’t known what the production may have planned for Jackman’s ultimate appearance in the film, which events are set in the year 1983, ten years after the events of last year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. The rehoots are scheduled to take place in early 2016 in two separate Montreal studios for “a few weeks,” according to this report.

transparent_space-2000-000

What’s interesting is Josh Helman has been confirmed to return as Col. Stryker in X-Men: Apocalypse. It’s possible this movie could show the origins of William Stryker getting Wolverine to participate in the Weapon X program which gave him his adamantium claws, but that hasn’t been confirmed. Regardless of what Hugh Jackman will be filming, it seems he will be back for his ninth X-Men movie somehow . . .

Director Talks Mystery In Blade Runner Sequel!

Blade Runner Header - Trans

While doing press for his latest, upcoming film Sicario, director Denis Villeneuve very recently revealed that principal photography on the Blade Runner sequel will begin next summer, although he wouldn’t divulge any specific plot details quite yet. During an interview at the Toronto International Film Festival, the filmmaker revealed that his follow-up will answer the question fans have had for decades: is Rick Deckard ( Harrison Ford ) in fact a “Replicant”? Here’s what he had to say on the subject . .

“Now that I am on the other side of the fence I cannot answer that. The thing I must say is that I love a good mystery. I love shadows. I love doubts. I would just want to say to the fans that we will take care of that mystery. I will take care of it.”

The director recently revealed that he was incredibly hesitant to take on this project, which was written by original Blade Runner writer Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. He also said that this sci-fi sequel will be “autonomous” to the original, while still maintaining some connection to the sci-fi classic.

While principal photography will begin next summer, the exact locations have not been determined yet. The project still doesn’t have a release date set at this time, but will most likely hit theaters in 2017, which would coincide with the 35th anniversary of the original. It isn’t exactly known what time period this movie will be set in, but now that a production schedule is in place, hopefully we’ll start learning more details about the anticipated project . . .

Warner Studio’s Untitled Blade Runner Project comes to theaters across the country in 2017.

Jack Reacher Sequel Gets Release Date!

HEADER - Trasnsparentspace bar

It’s now being reported that star Tom Cruise is set to ramp-up yet another of his successful franchise vehicles from Paramount Pictures in the form of the follow-up to 2012’s action / thriller “Jack Reacher”. No title has been officially released as of yet, but the upcoming film is said to be on the fast track by the studio for an October release next fall . .

Jack Reacher 2 reteams the mega-star with Oscar-winner Edward Zwick, who last directed Cruise in the critically acclaimed, “The Last Samurai” over a decade ago. Also joining the cast is Agent Maria Hill herself, Cobie Smulders, in what has been touted as a “more grounded” outing for the eponymous ex-military investigator.

Move Reel - transparent_space

The upcoming sequel is reported to be based on “Never Go Back” – the 18th Jack Reacher novel written by Lee Child. Jack Reacher 2 finds the investigator caught up in a mystery involving a commanding officer at a Virginia army base ( Smulders ), and a teenager named Samantha, who might, in fact, be Jack Reacher’s daughter. The first Jack Reacher was a mystery / action / thriller involving a convoluted conspiracy, but the sequel is said to be more comparatively straight-forward, with its focus more on Reacher’s relationships with Susan and Samantha.

Paramount Pictures and Skydance Entertainment’s untitled Jack Reacher Sequel is officially set to arrive in theaters on October 21, 2016 . .

Kong: Skull Island Script Gets A Dino-Sized Rewrite!

HEADER - Trasnsparentspace bar

According to recent sources, Universal and Legendary Pictures are bringing Jurassic World co-writer Derek Connolly in to do some script revision work on Kong: Skull Island, the 2017 film that will serve as an origins story for the mighty, King Kong ( and reboot that franchise in the process ). Connolly’s involvement in the project – which is slated to begin filming in late October 2015 – sounds like it will involve mostly polishing the existing screenplay material, as opposed to a much more substantial rewriting task . . .

After the box-office mega-success of Universal’s Jurassic World this really isn’t much of a shock to hear. I’m sure the veteran studio is just hoping that Connolly can add some of the high-spirited fun and large scale creature thrills he did so well with this summer’s dino-sized sequel.

Kong transparent_space

As for the cast of Kong: Skull Island, the super-star roster looks to include Tom Hiddleston (Crimson Peak), Brie Larson (Trainwreck) and Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton), while such noteworthy talent as Russell Crowe and Samuel L. Jackson are among the big name stars too be in talks to become official cast members in the near future.

Universal Studio’s King Kong prequel, “Kong: Skull Island” hits U.S. theaters on March 10, 2017 . .
