Well it looks like Warner Bros Studio is not giving up on the idea of bringing everyone’s favorite red-haired hippster too the big screen, it seems the latest rumor is they wish to give the long-in-development “Archie & the Gang” another shot at a sucessful treatment for a future summer 2017 release.
While no big names writers or directors have been officially attached thus far in this new resurgence’s of the project at Warner Studio right now, rumor is they are eyeing there original frontrunner for the project, none other than Mr Brad Bird. ( Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Toy Story 3 ) Way back in 2004, they originally asked Bird to direct the project, but talks eventually fell apart and so did the on & off script and so the director left the movie and went on too great sucess in other films, as we all know.
The original treatment information has never been released, but a second story treatment was attempted in 2011 , pitching Archie and his pals amists a giant Zombie outbreak at Riverdale high. But no directors came onboard and it was quickly put on a shelf along with other Warner projects at the time.
Now the rumor is the new direction this time round, Warner’s wants to go back to the original 1940’s and make Archie a fun, period piece franchise. No word on the Zombie storyline, which was a successful run in the “Archie” comics in the 2000’s. But this early in the game, only time will tell what storylines get mixed together or tossed out completely.
But amidst all of the pressure and mega-success from “Dc Comic’s” rival “Marvel Comics” and now “Walt Disney” has purchased “Lucasfilm’, Warner Studio is looking to ramp up another franchise in the rat race as soon as possible. So rest assured we will keep you up-to-date as things develop or possibly fall apart in the future . . .
